Reply with quote | #1 | Good afternoon everyone, Just want you all to know that Issue number 3 is in the works and will feature Ringside and Master Boxers that competed. I think this might be the issue that really breaks out as I'm getting phone calls for advertisement that will help make the magazine more easilly available. I will set up a preview in the next couple of days on the main page of the website. Manny |

Reply with quote | #7 | Manny, I also wish to thank you for all your help with/for this division! Just thought I'd throw an idea out there: Have you thought about maybe doing a spread on female master boxers? Getting the word out would help the current networking system as, from my understanding, there are women out there training but don't know competing is an option or want to compete but don't know where to go.
Also, unlike men who may have competed in their earlier days and have decided to dust off the gloves and give it another shot, finding potential opponents isn't nearly as hard. The same doesn't hold true for female boxers. Women in their 50's and 60's, for example, didn't box in their teens and 20's, making the pool smaller and therefore harder to find an opponent.
I would have loved to have gone to Ringside but there was no one for me. I did find one woman on this site in my weight class who is a master, yay! Also, another one near my weight found indirectly through this site.
Just thought I'd toss the idea out there. It's funny because I've thought of that "Field of Dreams" quote while training... Again thank you for all of your contributions!
Kristine

Reply with quote | #10 | Kristine - I was there and came back an uncontested champ (35-45, 110 - 119lbs). I was super-excited as I had been checking with RINGSIDE and there was someone pre-registered at 119lbs for me, but when she showed up, she was 125lbs so competed there. I was actually at 114lbs so could have gone down to 109, done 114 or fought at 119lbs where I registered but still, no one to play with. It was a heart-breaker.
Next year is the tournament's 10th year - I'd love to see not only MORE masters, but also MORE women coming out. Lis |
